The Flood Empty Lakes story
Flood Empty Lakes (FEL) is a four-piece, instrumental rock
band from Charleston, SC. The band consists of (pictured left to right)
BJ Edmonds guitars, Taylor Payne drums, Chuck Hamilton bass
and Nate Naylor on keys. The four came together as Flood Empty Lakes in
January of 2008. People try to classify their sound by using words like
"sonic, mystic, soundscape & ambient." Those are all nice labels but in truth,
FEL sounds like a lot of different things. The casual listener
(and this is not music to be listened to casually) can hear textures
of music from throughout the spectrum of modern rock.
Ranging in the form of everything from psychedelic, classic, and
progressive rock to the modern sounds and textures of today's
cutting edge music.
The formula for their "sonic delight" is simple, summed up in the words
"shimmer" and "crunch," while the end result is so much more!
Background
In October of 2007, Nate stumbled upon a demo tape he had recorded 12 years earlier with his then band Kite. The band wasn't together long enough to play a single gig, but the rough demo recording was enough to inspire Nate to launch the idea into development that would become Flood Empty Lakes. He called up long-time friend and former bassist for Kite, Chuck Hamilton. Chuck expressed interest and knew of a drummer named Taylor that might be up for the challenge. In the meantime, Nate began to play the piano and write music again. In December of 2007, Nate bumped into BJ at a Christmas party. As they talked Nate pitched B.J. the idea of the band's sound. By Jan 2008, the members of Flood Empty Lakes had started rehearsing together. In the following months the band began to put the finishing touches on songs for their first CD.
